Hello,

I was wondering, what happens when a priest offers a Mass for a deceased person, but the soul was condemned to hell? What does God do with this Mass intention and does it alter his judgment in anyway?

Thanks!

Well there are many ways to approach this question. God is beyond all time, so from the beginning of time and creation He knew these masses and prayers for these souls would be said. You are thinking too linearly.

You asked if these prayers would change God’s judgment. Once someone is condemned to hell there is no escaping it. So in that sense, no their judgment can not be changed. But as I said, God is beyond all time so these prayers might have had an effect, prayers said 100 years after a soul has died who might of went to hell might have had an effect and sent this soul to purgatory instead because God is beyond the bounds of time

How would anyone know that the soul was condemned to hell?

God would certainly apply the merit of the mass in the best way possible. It does not affect His judgement.

Im sorry for this way of thinking although it is a good question. Perhaps this way of thinking can allow you to reflect on what you can do to prevent being that person. The holy scapular enrollment is the best way to begin.
