Masturbation and gay thoughts: 1st confession

Hi, everyone. Sorry for the uncomfortable topic. I am getting ready to have my 1st confession, and I have years of sins to confess. One of them is masturbation. I did it almost daily for the past 2 years (I wasn’t really a Catholic back then, more like a lapsed one), and sometimes it was accompanied by heterossexual thoughts and others by gay thoughts. My question is: do I need to specify the type of thoughts or can I just say that I indulged in inappropriate sexual thoughts? Thanks.

I don’t think you need to go in deep detail (unless the priest is going to ask you more but I strongly doubt the priest is interested in knowing all the details of your sexual fantasies). Saying masturbation and impure thoughts describes pretty much it.

You don’t need to specify the types of thoughts you had while you were impure while you were alone. Sometimes there is a such thing as too much information. You only have to mention the number of times and what you did.

All you have to do is give number and name of your sins. If the priest needs details he will ask you for them.
