I’m slowly working through Wisdom of Solomon. The use of this book in the NT by the apostles and even Christ seems obvious to me. I am attempting to, slowly on my own, correlate this back to what I’ve read elsewhere in the NT. I am particularly interested in things said in the apocrypha that are also stated in the NT and are not said elsewhere in the OT outside of the apocrypha ( ok. dueterocanonicals ).

Can anyone tell me for Matthew 12:34-37 is there any other portion of the old testament where this is stated ? It surely is stated plainly in Wisdom.

[34] You brood of vipers! how can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
[35] The good man out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil man out of his evil treasure brings forth evil.
[36] I tell you, on the day of judgment men will render account for every careless word they utter;
[37] for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."

Compare with …

[7] Because the Spirit of the Lord has filled the world,
and that which holds all things together knows what is said;
[8] therefore no one who utters unrighteous things
will escape notice,
and justice, when it punishes, will not pass him by.

In fact going up a bit higher in Wisdom Ch. 1 there is a bit more preamble that is of the same mindset as what the situation Christ is speaking of.

*Isaiah 29:13 And the Lord said: "Because this people draw near with their mouth and honor me with their lips, while their hearts are far from me, and their fear of me is a commandment of men learned by rote; *
(Jesus cites this Isaiah passage in Mt. 15:8-9)

Ezekiel 33:31 And they come to you (Ezekiel) as people come, and they sit before you as My people, and they hear what you say but they will not do it; for with their lips they show much love, but their heart is set on their gain.

Ps. 78:36-39 But they flattered Him with their mouths; they lied to Him with their tongues.
Their heart was not steadfast toward Him; they were not true to His covenant.
Yet He, being compassionate, forgave their iniquity, and did not destroy them; He restrained His anger often, and did not stir up all His wrath.
He remembered that they were but flesh, a wind that passes and comes not again.
