As the title says, do these two passages contradict each other? Thanks.

Matthew 11:28-30
‘Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened, and I will give you rest. Shoulder my yoke and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Yes, my yoke is easy and my burden light.’

Luke 9:23
Then, speaking to all, he said, 'If anyone wants to be a follower of mine, let him renounce himself and take up his cross every day and follow me.

No, it doesn’t contradict, here Jesus is give us his own example, though we are burdened with sin and salves to satan and the worldly affliction are the consequence of our sins, and of life ,Jesus has purchased us by a price by his own blood so that we are free from sin and gain salvation by relying on him and learn from the way to salvation by the virtues and the sacraments we receive from the Church. as it is said in Philippians 2:6 who, though he was in the form of God,did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited,7 but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form,8 he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death—even death on a cross.
Luke 9:23
Then, speaking to all, he said, 'If anyone wants to be a follower of mine, let him renounce himself and take up his cross every day and follow me .
There is no gain without pain ,we have lost Grace (Adam and Eve humanity ), Now Jesus is giving us a second chance ,we have to do the will of God ,by own free will, voluntarily offer it ,for that we have to give up many vain worldly things according to our own state of life God has called us,a sense of detachment Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is devious above all else;it is perverse—who can understand it? 18 But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this is what defiles.Matthew 15: 19 For out of the heart come evil intentions, murder, adultery, fornication, theft, false witness, slander. 20 These are what defile a person, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile.” from all these we have to renounce especially the deadly sins,Pride,Avarice Latin avarus , “greedy”; “to crave” Envy,Wrath,Lust, Gluttony,Sloth Galatians 5:19-21 1 John 2:16 for all that is in the world—the desire of the flesh, the desire of the eyes, the pride in riches—comes not from the Father but from the world.

Replace them with virtues Gal 5:22,23 And give to God what is due him that is first place in our life and rest second place other things. as in Romans 6:22 But now that you have been freed from sin and enslaved to God, the advantage you get is sanctification. The end is eternal life.Galatians 5:1 For freedom Christ has set us free. Stand firm, therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

1 John 5:3 For the love of God is this, that we obey his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome,

When we obey the Commandments out of Love for God with a free will, we are free from sin ans be under Grace. God Bless

Respectfully just opinion when pondering upon that theses 2 verses do not seem to think they contradict each other and realizing also written recorded by 2 different authors in 2 different time periods also? The word also .cross was used? In Matthew would Jesus still be alive in Luke he was already put to death on the cross?

Come to me all you who labor and are overburdened…and I will give your rest…rest within? Shoulder my yoke and… learn from me…see how I handle walking through this life on earth?

I let not the troubles or burdens of this world change my heart soul and mind within…positive…become the fullness of love within my heart?

My yoke is easy and my burden light? My yoke become the fullness of love within.

Shoulder my yoke and learn from me…What yoke was placed on Jesus? Burdens/Cross place by others??

Learn from me?..I am gentle and humble in heart. become the fullness of Love within us?

Luke is saying the same thing but in a different way? let him renounce himself ( look within know who we are not, see our weakens, our harden hearts toward life and others, correct our own sins etc strive to become the fullness of love within, become gentle and humble in heart, is what Luke is saying like Matthew?
Renounce himself…our egos, pride, vanity, hatred, heartlessness toward others ( Jesus was being persecuted by others because why?)
And take up his cross every day ( his…burdens… in this world you also will face living in a world that lacks Love?)
Follow Me…How?
Do what I do, live how I live on earth and in serving others and their needs, trying to spread and become Love within ourselves maybe?
Become like Me within my Heart…I am Holy Love?
I am the fullness of Love within me?
I am gentle toward others
I am humble within and toward others
Live not to serve ones own pride? self boasting? vanity? ego? selfishness? hatred toward others?
I do not place heavy burdens upon others?

Matthew/Luke… Not contradicting to me at all just my opinion.🙂

Cross was a heavy burden to all those who were put to death on it?
Cross was a heavy burden for love ones also to witness their loved ones place upon the cross also?.

Heavy burdens of life…in those times…cross/ burdens
Let him renounce himself and take up his cross ( all his burdens) every day and follow me…notice reads… his cross( our own heavy burdens) …every day?
Change our harden hearts of stone…which Jesus mentions many times…be gentle, be humble…become the fullness of love within our hearts…like me… just opinion…

Peace ❤️
