Matthew 27:52 From the Ignatius Study Bible…the tombs also were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised 53 and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many.

I have read the Catholic commentaries on these verses and to me they don’t make it plain. Were these bodies just hurled from the ground and just rolled into the city or were these saints raised and walked to the holy city under their own steam? I have a JW friend that believes the former.

Any further comments on the above scriptures?
Thanks
Jeanne

I fail to see why bodies being hurled from the ground would add anything to the account…

They were physically manifest, as before they died, and their appearance was to teach those to whom they visited that GOD had been in their midst and taught the truth.

Remember when the Rich Man requested from Abraham that someone from the dead visit his brothers to teach them that their way of living was in error, and Abraham refused saying that his brothers had Moses and the prophets, and therefore they would not believe a dead man.

But in the above case, it was not “a” dead man, it was 53 living men who were formerly dead for some time.
