Hello,

I have noticed that on certain days I cannot find the Proper for that day in the 1962 Missal. For example the past couple of days I noticed that the Proper jumped from May 20 to May 25, with no 22/23/24 between. There obviously were readings for those days but I could not find them. Would any of you kind folks help me understand why certain days are like this and also where in the missal I would find the right readings on days such as these? Thanks in advance.

Only Lent had daily propers and readings according to the Calendar in the EF: “Monday after the Third Sunday of Lent”, for example.

During Ascensiontide, if there is no Mass for the Saint of the Day, the Mass of the Feast is repeated.

Supposedly one said the mass of the previous Sunday on ferias. However at that time mass in memory of one deceased was always said as a mass for the dead. Since most masses were such, mass for the dead was all one ever experienced except for major feasts. I don’t know how the change was accomplished, but the switch to mass of the day was a major improvement.

Tell that to the Poor Souls in Purgatory!
