Dear Brothers and Sisters,

As I promised yesterday, I’m posting two links to two different Novenas to prepare for the Feast of Pentecost which will be celebrated on Sunday, May 31this year. The first one is a single prayer repeated for the nine days of the Novena and can be found HERE

The second gives specific prayer(s) for each day of the nine day Novena and can be found HERE

I hope to pray the second one since it is more specifically asking for the 7 gifts of the Holy Spirit, which I believe too few of us really appreciate. These Supernatural Gifts were given to us at our Baptism along with the Supernatural gifts of Faith, Hope and Charity - but especially for those baptized as infants – how many of us are aware of these gifts, given to us by God, that we might grow in the practice of them?

Hopefully many of us can pray today for the grace to make this a holy Novena not only for our own growth in holiness but also for the Church, the Body of Christ, to be renewed in these supernatural gifts of grace., and begin to listen and do the Truth the Holy Spirit was sent to lead us into, by the Father and the Son, our Lord Jesus.

Let us pray especially with the Heart of our Immaculate Mother, whose feast we celebrate the day following Pentecost, on June 1 under the title “Mother of the Church”.

Today’s Mass readings give 3 options: See Readings for Thursday, of the 6th Wk of Easter HERE Scroll down for link to the optional Memorial HERE and if your Diocese is celebrating the Feast of the Ascension today, the Readings are HERE

In Reading the options, I was most blessed by the 2nd Reading for the Feast of Ascension:
Brothers and sisters:
May the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory,
give you a Spirit of wisdom and revelation
resulting in knowledge of Him.
May the eyes of your hearts be enlightened,
that you may know what is the hope that belongs to His call,

what are the riches of glory
in His inheritance among the holy ones,
and what is the surpassing greatness of His power
for us who believe
,
in accord with the exercise of his great might,
which he worked in Christ,
raising him from the dead
and seating him at his right hand in the heavens,
far above every principality, authority, power, and dominion,
and every name that is named
not only in this age but also in the one to come.
And He put all things beneath His feet
and gave Him as head over all things to the church,
which is His body,
the fullness of the One who fills all things in every way. (Ephesians 1: 17-23)
Come Holy Spirit, fill us as you filled Mary, that we may live Your Truth as Mary our Mother lived on this earth, listening to all Jesus said and did, pondering all in her heart.

Thanks dear “Observing”,

…for your “heart” – so important to the Lord and to your brothers and sisters in Jesus and Mary. Hope you will be praying with me during this Novena preparing for Pentecost. How the Church needs to be renewed from the “top - down” and from "inside - out "!!

Your avatar picture of St. Faustina says much to me. I’ve read her Diary several times and go back to portions of it often. Trusting in God is so important for all of us. It is significant to me that Faustina was a member of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy. Today the Church needs a renewed devotion to Mary AND to the Holy Spirit. Too much of the “world” has entered the Church and we need to look to God for His grace to come back to Him as He came to us, humbly through Mary by the power of the Holy Spirit!

Dear Stephie,

Thanks again for your ever-faith-full and loving “heart”. I wonder if your parish has made any plans for a “May crowning” of Our Lady – perhaps sometime before the end of May or even on June 1st the day after Pentecost when we celebrate the Feast of Mary, Mother of the Church. Have you thought any more about it, or heard anything possibly planned by your Pastor or parish?

I haven’t heard anything planned at our parish but I think I’ll wait a bit longer in the hope that maybe the Holy Spirit may lead me to contact someone in the Church Office about the possibility of having a very simple crowning either on Pentecost Sunday, May 31, or possibly on June 1 since the Feast of Mary, Mother of the Church., is to be celebrated on the First Monday after Pentecost.

There seems to be is so much “fear” of the virus, I’m not sure the pastor or our parish staff will want to consider a crowning of Mary but I’ll keep listening for that "still small Voice " of the Holy Spirit and trust Him to enlighten me on what I might do or say to honor Jesus through Mary. Please let us pray for one another, for the Church, and for all those in most need of God’s Mercy.

PS God willing, tonight there is a program on EWTN at 8pm entitled “Champions in Faith – The Children of Fatima”. I hope t watch it.

There have been a few members hit with the virus, and several more in quarantine. So, far, nothing, but we still have 10 days left in May.

I tend to be an optimist, so still hoping.

God bless,
Stephie

Dear Stephie,

Yes, God’s Will is most important. He works ALL things unto good, (cf Rm 8:28) Mary Mother of the Church, pray for us.

The United States Grace Force and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Zoom rosary group will both be praying this novena so I will be joining with them in prayer.
The US Grace Force is specifically praying it for an outpouring of grace for priests and bishops.

As for May crowning, the Zoom rosary group had a May crowning prayer service on Mother’s Day that we got to follow on video and we were all invited to crown our own statues of Mary at home and send in photos. They made a slideshow of the photos sent in, many nice Mary crowns, probably about 50 pictures sent in and I’m sure many more people did it and didn’t send a photo.

Thanks PeterT, Greenfields and Genesis 315,

Thank you all for your “hearts” – I hope many more began the Novena today. It was a blessing for me and I continue to ponder with Our Mother Mary, the great Gifts of the Holy Spirit given to us at Baptism and our need to grow in these gifts, personally and as the Body of Christ called to holiness.

I’ve been blessed in praying over Rom 8 especailly . May we all grow by God’s Grace!

Here is some commentary from http://www.catholictradition.org/:

The novena in honor of the Holy Ghost is the oldest of all novenas since it was first made at the direction of Our Lord Himself, when He sent His Apostles back to Jerusalem to await the coming of the Holy Ghost on the first Pentecost. Addressed to the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity, it is a powerful plea for the light and strength and love so sorely needed by every Catholic today. To encourage devotion to the Holy Spirit, the Church has granted the following indulgences: “The faithful who devoutly assist at the public novena in honor of the Holy Spirit immediately preceding the Solemn Feast of Pentecost may gain a partial indulgence for themselves, or as an offering for the intentions of the faithful departed. Those who make a private novena in honor of the Holy Spirit, either before the Solemn Feast of Pentecost or at any other time in the year, may also gain a partial indulgence for themselves or as an offering for the intentions of the faithful departed."

Let us give God our very best at this time and pray this novena all over the world together, for the intentions of our Holy Mother Church.

God works in mysterious ways. This mornings homily was partially about encouraging us to participate in the novena.

Father also noted for further info, check the bulletin.

I noticed they had uploaded the newest bulletin. When I read it, they had pictures OF OUR MAY CROWNING. Yay! They did have the May crowning. I guess I’m gonna have to sneak over there and look at it. I’ve only been out of the house to pick up my meds.

Blessings,
Stephie

Thanks so much Dear CF,

The wording is just a “bit” different from the EWTN website copy but I hope to print out a copy from your pdf link here sometime today. It is such a beautiful Novena. Yesterday I began it early and just finished praying Day 2, and am more blessed than yesterday – How true are the words of Jesus: “Ask and you shall receive!” (cf Mt 7: 7-11)
