Dear Brothers and Sisters,
In preparation for the Feast of Pentecost, I hope others will join me in praying the Novena to the Holy Spirit for an increase in the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit. See HERE
By God’s Grace, I intend to pray this Novena not only for my own spiritual growth but for the growth of holiness in all the members of the Universal Church on earth at this time. Jesus tells us in His Sermon on the Mount:
Early morning is always my best time, so hopefully I’ll begin to post each day on CAF whatever I may have heard in a special way, and hope to ponder with Mary during the day . If you are praying this Novena or prayerfully ponding the Scripture in preparation for Pentecost perhaps God will urge you to share whatever He has given you, as we pray in love for one another as He has loved us.
What impressed me this morning is that the Novena gives us words in which we ask for both our own sanctification and the sanctification of the whole Church. At the start, we ask the Lord for the Holy Spirit:
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful. Kindle in us the Fire of Your Love. Mary Mother of the Church, please pray with us and for us. O my Jesus, pardon us and save us from the fires of Hell. Lead ALL souls to heaven, especially those in most need of Your Mercy.

We cannot give what we have not. Without God’s Grace we can do nothing!“You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned? It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father (Mt 5:13 -16)

Further on we are encouraged to pray not only for ourselves;…that He may perfect in my soul, the work of Your grace and Your love.
There is much more to ponder in the final words for this “First Day of the Novena”, but I think I want to ponder those words above from Romans 8:26 especially.…To ensure our salvation we ought to invoke the Divine Spirit daily, for “The Spirit helpeth our infirmity. We know not what we should pray for as we ought. But the Spirit Himself asketh for us.” (cf Rom 8:26)
