Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Hopefully you began the Novena for Pentecost HERE yesterday – but if not – you can begin today and finish on the Feast itself. Each day has a few prayers repeated and a few particular to the day.

It was a blessing for me yesterday. Today as I prayed the second day’s prayer I was even more blessed. I encourage all who are reading this post to pray this Novena for the Universal Church as well as our own individual souls. All are called to holiness and there is a great need for interior renewal for all of us and for each of us in the whole world.

Today I want to spend time especially pondering with Mary our Mother, for it was she to whom the Holy Spirit came and by His power she conceived Jesus, the Incarnate Son of God in her womb. Today’s Novena prayers emphasize the Spirit of “Filial Fear” and I was mindful of the words of the Angel to Mary: “Fear not, Mary…” (Luke 1:30)

May the Holy Spirit guide each of us to “All Truth” as Jesus promised His disciples (and us) on the night before he died (John 16:13). May we cooperate with God’s Grace as Mary our Mother did that we may do the Truth we hear.

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your Faithful. Kindle in us the Fire of Your Love. Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us.
From Day 2 of the Novena:

Prayer

Come, O blessed Spirit of Holy Fear, penetrate my inmost heart, that I may set you, my Lord and God, before my face forever, help me to shun all things that can offend You, and make me worthy to appear before the pure eyes of Your Divine Majesty in heaven, where You live and reign in the unity of the ever Blessed Trinity, God world without end. Amen.

Dear Stephie,

Thanks again for your ever-faith-full “heart”. I cannot begin to tell you how blessed I was this morning in praying the 2nd Day of this Novena for Pentecost.

A few days before beginning the Novena for Pentecost. I had just recently finished re-reading the last book written by St. Edith Stein, entitled "The Science of the Cross. " It was finished just before she was arrested by the German soldiers and taken from her Carmelite convent to the Concentration camp where she died.

Toward the final pages of her book, St. Edith Stein spoke of St. John of the Cross’ Life and his Writing having the same core: Love. St. Edith Stein quoted words from St. John of the Cross, which re-enforced what I read in the Novena today on “The Fear of the Lord”. I had copied these words from her book so I could ponder them more:
…“When the soul attains to the perfect possession of the spirit of fear, she has the spirit of love in its perfection, for this fear, the final one of the seven gifts is totally filial, and the perfect fear of the child arises from the perfect love for the Father”…

Good for you, CF – Mornings are good – get a good night’s sleep tonight!

My husband already printed out the Novena for me and I’ve got it in a folder for “whenever” I need it again. For now, using the link from EWTN is easiest way for me to post on CAF and also forward to some friends.

Thanks again! 🙂

Dear Margaret_ Ann,

Thanks so much for your “heart”! It is so good to know others are reading this thread and some may be praying the Novena for Pentecost with us. Tomorrow as we celebrate the Feast of the Ascension, I pray that all of us will ponder both the the Feast of the Ascension and the “waiting” in prayer that Mary and the disciples experienced before Pentecost.

By God’s Grace may we be mindful of their attention and devotion in prayer as we continue our Novena and learn as they did to keep listening to hear and to do the Truth we hear!

Thanks Megan, Yes, how Wonderful our God is! How gratefully we need to praise Him for His Grace and His Love in everything, everyday. Today is the Feast of the Ascension and we will be praying Day 3 of our Novena. Thanks for your willingness to accept His Grace to do this, and please let us pray for one another, and for the Universal Church that we may be true children of God and heairs of heaven! 🙂
