Dear Brothers and Sisters,

The Mass Readings for today are so very beautiful - both for May 26 as well as Readings for the Optiional Memorial of St. Philip Neri. I chose words from today’s Alleluia Verse before the Gospel of John for the title of this thread. The Gospel Reading for both Masses this Morning are from John. For both see http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/052620.cfm (be sure to scroll down for the optional Memorial Mass Readings).

Due to the word limit on CAF I won’t post the full texts of both but I encourage you to read both for the Word of God is more precious than this world realizes – the more we listen to Jesus, as our Mother Mary listened and pondered all in her heart the more we learn. Mary was most ready to receive the Holy Spirit at Pentecost because she lived the Truth she heard all her life. Let us listen as she did and do as she did all our lives, by God’s Grace.

Today’s Gospel:
Jesus raised His eyes to heaven and said,
“Father, the hour has come.
Give glory to Your Son, so that Your Son may glorify You,
just as You gave Him authority over all people,
so that Your Son may give eternal life to all You gave Him.
Now this is eternal life,
that they should know You, the Only True God,
and the One Whom You sent, Jesus Christ.

I glorified You on earth
by accomplishing the work that You gave Me to do.
Now glorify Me, Father, with You,
with the glory that I had with You before the world began.

“I revealed Your name to those whom You gave Me out of the world.
They belonged to You, and you gave them to Me,
and they have kept Your Word.
Now they know that everything You gave Me is from You,
because the words You gave to Me I have given to them,
and they accepted them and truly understood that I came from You,
and they have believed that You sent me.
I pray for them.
I do not pray for the world but for the ones You have given Me,
because they are Yours, and everything of Mine is Yours
and everything of Yours is Mine,
and I have been glorified in them.
And now I will no longer be in the world,
but they are in the world, while I am coming to You.” (Jn 17: 1-11)
Day 5 - Novena for Pentecost:
The gift of Knowledge enables the soul to evaluate created things at their true worth–in their relation to God. Knowledge unmasks the pretense of creatures, reveals their emptiness, and points out their only true purpose as instruments in the service of God. It shows us the loving care of God even in adversity, and directs us to glorify Him in every circumstance of life. Guided by its light, we put first things first, and prize the friendship of God beyond all else. “Knowledge is a fountain of life to him that possesseth it.”

Come, O Blessed Spirit of Knowledge, and grant that I may perceive the will of the Father; show me the nothingness of earthly things, that I may realize their vanity and use them only for Thy glory and my own salvation, looking ever beyond them to Thee, and Thy eternal rewards. Amen.
Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us. St. Philip Neri, pray for us.

Dear Stephie,

Thanks so much for your ever faith-full and loving “heart”! I hope at least some of those who are reading these threads on the Novena for Pentecost are praying the Novena with us. It seems to me the “Little Flock” grows smaller each day. Nevertheless, God knows every heart and has died for all.

By His Grace, may we continue to be faithful to Him in praying the Novena for Pentecost that we may grow in the Supernatural Gifts of Faith, Hope and above all Charity and the Gifts of the Holy Spiriit - given to us in Baptism – through Mary, our Mother and Model for the Church.

Dear Cham,

Thanks also for your “heart” which I know is always seeking to know and love Jesus through Mary more and more. I hope you are also making this Novena with us and following the readings from the Mass each day. Today’s Mass Readings and the Novena Prayers are especially beautiful (today is May 27, as I write this so you’ll need to check my post for today! 🙂
