Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Today’s Mass Readings, once again are so beautiful that I hope you will make time to listen to both the Readings for today and also the Readings for the Optional Memorial of St. Augustine of Canterbury. The First Reading for both Masses is taken from the letters of St. Paul in which we hear the heart of Christ speaking through His servant Paul. who speaks to his flock with the Heart of a Shepherd.

In the Gospel for both Masses we hear Jesus speaking in love as the Good Shepherd and Model for all who follow Him. I will only post the Gospel for today but I hope you will real all the readings for both Masses HERE - scroll down for link to Optional Memorial of St. Augustine of Canterbury.

Gospel for today, May 27:
Lifting up his eyes to heaven, Jesus prayed, saying:
“Holy Father, keep them in Your name
that You have given Me,
so that they may be one just as We are one.

When I was with them I protected them in Your name that You gave Me,
and I guarded them, and none of them was lost
except the son of destruction,
in order that the Scripture might be fulfilled.
But now I am coming to You.
I speak this in the world
so that they may share My joy completely.
I gave them Your Word, and the world hated them,
because they do not belong to the world
any more than I belong to the world.

I do not ask that You take them out of the world
but that You keep them from the Evil One.
They do not belong to the world
any more than I belong to the world.
Consecrate them in the Truth.
Your Word is Truth.

As you sent Me into the world,
so I sent them into the world.
And I consecrate Myself for them,
so that they also may be consecrated in Truth
.”
From Day 6 of the Novena for Pentecost:
The Gift of Understanding

Understanding, as a gift of the Holy Spirit, helps us to grasp the meaning of the Truths of our holy religion. By faith we know them, but by Understanding we learn to appreciate and relish them. It enables us to penetrate the inner meaning of revealed Truths and through them to be quickened to newness of life. Our faith ceases to be sterile and inactive, but inspires a mode of life that bears eloquent testimony to the faith that is in us; we begin to “walk worthy of God in all things pleasing, and increasing in the knowledge of God.”

Come, O Spirit of Understanding, and enlighten our minds, that we may know and believe all the mysteries of salvation; and may merit at last to see the eternal light in Thy Light; and in the light of glory to have a clear vision of Thee and the Father and the Son. Amen.
Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us. St. Paul, Apostle to the Gentiles, and St. Augustine of Canterbury, pray for us.

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful; kindle in us the Fire of Your Love! Enlighten the minds of all who are called to holiness, especially priests who have been called in a special way to shepherd and guard the flock.
