May a Thomas Merton reading be substituted for a scriptural reading at Mass?

Hi,

My friends went to a Sunday Mass at a local church where the 2nd reading was substituted by a reading from Thomas Merton.

Is this something that is allowed or should it be reported to the Bishop?

Hi,

No priest has the authority to change the readings at Sunday Mass, let alone substitute a non-scriptural reading. I would mention it to the bishop.
