My name is Dominic Bardill, I am a catholic, in my heart and my soul I take my faith very seriously. I come from a family of catholics, some strict, some not strict at all, however I am very close to my grandparents and my grandmother has had an amazing influence in my life, I am bless by god to have her with me to this very day.

Because of my grandmother, both of my sisters were Christened Catholic, and brought up that way as she acted as a God parent due to my parents not really being religious. I followed, I know the Lord’s prayer, I know the rosary, I constantly pray and seek to perform god’s work, I would see myself as a good christian despite some bad things i may have done or may do as a teenager. I even attended mass every sunday until a few years ago when the bus service to my parish church stopped, so one thing I have done wrong is that I havn’t attended mass. Nevertheless, my question is this, only recently did I find out, despite being the only one out of my siblings n myself that takes catholicism seriously and holds it close to his heart, I was never actually christened. This means not only have I gone about my catholic faith unknowing i wasn’t christened, but also, I have told everyone in my life such as friends, family members like cousins etc, that I am catholic and they see me as a catholic assuming I am baptised. Sorry to ramble, but I am wondering, do you know if I can get a private christening with just me and the priest and my witnesses and nobody else, to avoid immense embarrassment at the fact that I am not christened? Is there a way around this?

Hi,

The proper name for that sacrament is Baptism. You need to check with your pastor. You didn’t mention having had any instruction in the faith. In order to make one’s first Holy Communion a baptismal certificate is required. You may need some instruction. There is certainly nothing to be embarrassed about. Check with your priest.
