May I have a granola bar before Mass?

Father,

I asked this question before without receiving a reply, but I really need an answer. I know one cannot eat solid foods 1 hour before mass, but what happens if you do? I usually wake up late on Sundays because I’m a college student, and usually I have a granolla bar or a muffin so that I do not faint during mass (and I do so breaking the pre-mass fast). Is it a sin to do so? Can I still receive communion after breaking it?

Hi,

Get an alarm clock or go to a later Mass. Only the bishop has the authority to depense with the Eucharistic fast. This is not a minor casual thing! Wake up! This is almighty God you are receiving. To deliberately disregard this when one understands its gravity is a mortal sin.
