May I have clarification on Holy Thursday washing?

I would like to see document links and liturgical and theological links so that I can take solid proof to our pastor about the Holy Thursday liturgy. If the 12 are supposed to be men, what documents show this? Is it in the GIRM, or somewhere else? Just post some good quality links that can be downloaded from so I can back this position.
