Two good friends of mine recently asked me if I would marry them. They are having a nondenominational service and rather than choose a minister from the yellow pages, they chose me. They felt it would be more “personal” to be married by someone who knows them well.
The wedding will be in New Jersey. They sent me a link to the Universal Life Church which “ordained” me in seconds (requires only a name and email address.
NJ state law allows that every religious society, institution or organization in this State may join together in marriage such persons according to the rules and customs of the society, institution or organization.
My question is this. As a church going Catholic - is this allowed by the Catholic church?
