Is it alright for me to receive communion at an Episcopal Church? I’m Roman Catholic and my wife is a is a minister for the Episcopal Church. I do know I was allowed to marry her. My wife, on the other hand, seems not to be able to receive communion in the Catholic Church. Why?

Dear friend,

The Catholic Church does not recognize Anglican eucharist as valid. The Church of England lost valid ordinations when it dropped belief in the sacrificial nature of the Mass.

But even if the Anglican churches did have a valid eucharist, they are still not in union with Rome and you would not be allowed to receive their sacraments if a Catholic Church were near-by. This is the case with Easter Orthodox Churches who’s sacraments the Catholic Church does recognize. This is not a minor matter.
