I was recently elected as an officer in the VFW. We have a soldier that is being buried from a catholic church. VFW rules say that hats remain on during the service. As a Catholic I’ve always removed my hat before entering the church. I’m conflicted with this so called “VFW Rule”. I’ll resign my position before I wear a hat in my church. Is there an exception for military services? The service is in two days and I need to let them replace me if thats what I need to do. Thanks

Hi,

Ordinarily service men remove their hats in church unless they are a part of an honor guard. In your case, I assume that the only military identification that your group will be wearing is the hat. So it would be appropriate to wear them.
