I know that in vitro fertiliazations are in the same cagetorgory as artifical birth control, at least as far as receving Church approval goes.
my question goes to the unused embryos made for in vitro but never used, typically for couples who concieve and do not wish further children.
my wife and i followed natural family planning for a year until we decided to stop. i decided that it was too much for me to bear so we prayed and decided to have relations only when we felt it approiate emotionally and spirtuatly. we had decided that if the Lord would bless us with children we would do nothing to stop it, and if not we would accept it. No trying for one way or the other.
4 months ago we had a healthy daughter, and even now i am waiting for my wife to see her doctor so we can find out of she is pregnant again(apparently over the counter tests are not very relaiable this soon after a birth for a breast feeding mother).
my main point which i have digressed much from to give some history is as follows. Can a Catholic couple, married in the Church, in good standing adopt an embryo the same as they would an already born child? regardless of the answer we have made no decesion and have much praying to do before we could.
to the support of the children i am less than 2 years from being rich, we get by now, but i have job offers lined up for when i get out of grad school so money for a larger family is not an issue.
i simply want to know if it is an acceptable option or if we should pray for guidance on another way to help abandonded chidren.
