That’s all we need is for Donald Trump to bad-mouth Puerto Rico. Maybe the Chinese or Russians or North Korea will rush in to aid them and turn the people against the U.S. That’s all we need on Puerto Rico is Chinese missiles.

When Catholic Cuban refugees in the 1980s came to Florida and tried to integrate into their local Catholic parishes, they were met with many unwelcoming American Catholics who wanted nothing to do with them. One of the few prominent groups that came to the aid of those Catholic Cuban refugees via food, shelter, work, school, etc., were the Orthodox Jewish community. Because of said aid, many Catholic Cuban refugees subsequently converted to Orthodox Judaism.

Well, they could have switched to the Orthodox Church instead. I would not switch to Orthodox Judaism, but if Christianity didn’t exist, I think Orthodox Judaism would be the next best thing.

There are people of other faiths who seem much more reverent and devoted than Catholics around me, especially the ones who always seem to find their way to sit behind me in church and talk before Mass begins.

That’s never going to happen. History shows that communism was a total failure. The good guys won the Cold War.

My physician who is from Puerto Rico says Communism is all over Puerto Rico. He’s like to get his devout Catholic mother out.

I’ll never understand why people think Communism is the answer. It has failed everywhere it has been tried. You know why? It has failed because the government has never handed the means of production over to the people as they promised. Once the state gets control of everything, they never let go. Communism has noble aspirations but it fails to account for fallen nature; it fails to recognise that people are unequal in talents and abilities; it fails to recognise that self-interest drives the economy. Lastly, no Catholic could support communism because commies have persecuted the Church since their inception. They are enemies of God.

I don’t think that this comment by President Trump will be received without some hurt or offense.
It appears to be impatient and unsympathetic.

However, we can hope in the strength of Puerto Rico people to maintain faith in the face of disaster…
Naturally anyone with family in Puerto Rico is very concerned for many reasons.
In any case we can pray and trust, and where possible, assist those suffering so much after the hurricanes.

Your comments are concerning though Clare. They do appear to support the anxiety that Puerto Rico could succumb to Communism.
