Is the book, CATHOLICISM by John McGreevey, the book that I hear referred to as that really “bad one?”

As a serious Catholic, I should know which book it is. While I surf the net, I correct view points about the Catholic faith whenever I can.

For example, today I came upon a web page at Boston College promoting a seminar, Summer 2005, “Religious Diversity and the Common Good” bc.edu/bc_org/research/rapl/seminar2005/index.html

The page is written by Alan Wolfe, Director, BOISE Center for Religion and American Public Life.

It’s instructive for serious Catholics to read the Center’s beliefs. It appears they must be thinking they’re on the “cutting edge” of the direction of every religion in American.

Anyway, I’m in the middle of writing the director to complain that McGreevey’s book will mislead participants.

Looking forward to all that know about the book.

I haven’t read the book, but according to reviews at BarnesandNoble.com, *Catholicism and American Freedom *(2003)is a study of the relationships and conflicts betweenCatholicism and American democratic culture. It seems to show how Catholics have differed from the Protestant mainstream, however, it doesn’t seem that it is hugely anti-Catholic theologically.

You may be thinking of the infamous title Roman Catholicism (1962) by Loraine Boettner, which is very much anti-Catholic.

You might be thinking of Richard McBrien’s. I believe that the revised version didn’t receive the nihil obstat and imprimatur. I haven’t heard anything negative about McGreevy, but then again, I’ve never heard anything good or bad about him.

Yes, I’m not too sure about the views of Fr. McBrien. Last night on 60 Minutes he used an interview regarding our dear Holy Father to spout out his dissident views stating that women & the clergy and celibacy were “minor issues.” He said “we will soon have women priests” and that “we will have to end celibacy or we won’t have any more priests.”
