What is the meaning of light a candle to the Virgin Mary or a saint etc.

The candle represents a prayer to the Virgin Mary or whomever the Saint may be, asking for their intercession to pray for their (the person who lit the candle) intention.

When you see the candles others have lit, while you don’t know their intentions, God does, so you can effectively pray for them. When you light a candle, the money you pay is a sacrifice and your intentions are prayed for by others.

It’s a beautiful thing and a true exchange of spiritual goods.
