jj,

Awesome. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Actually it is serendipitous in so far as I was just reading Mediator Dei today, and I wasn’t even aware of the anniversary.

I am very much intrigued by the encyclical, and perhaps your thread will be a good place for all of us to have a discussion. What do you say?

One of the things that I am scratching my head over is whether or not the encyclical argues against “The Mystery Theory” of the Mass put forth by Dom Odo Casel.

Anyone have any insight on that?
Thanks!
VC

To be candid, my original reason for posting was that somebody challenged my assertion about the legitimacy of dialogue mass!
In this encyclical, nos. 105-107, Pius XII reaffirms the legitimacy of dialogue mass and the special dignity of solemn high mass. Whew.

I find the encyclical a remarkable combination of the dogmatic and practical, an attempt to prevent deviations while consolidating the progress made by the liturgical movement in emphasising Divine Liturgy as a corporate act of the Mystical Body of Christ.

I’m not familiar enough with Dom Casel’s theories to get into all that, but we know that Pius XII was concerned about theological novelties and their potential effects on the liturgy.

Another purpose I had in posting was to encourage prayer for priests, so that they may embrace the sound doctrine contained here, and hopefully embrace the fulness of the traditional liturgy as well.
