It puts a smile on my face every time I see it. It’s true, too: You have to try to swim and pray and trust that God will see you through your troubles, not pray as a substitute for doing something you are perfectly capable of doing.

I understand that philosophy and can agree with it! We can’t wave our hands in the air and pretend we can’t do what we can for ourselves. I thought the old legend was God helps them that help themselves? There have been some serious departures of thought since then I guess.

This is a common and very treatable condition, but for some reason some believers find it impossible to rely on anything but prayer. We all know about the many horror stories of people opting for prayer only, or prayer first before action.

Can’t believers chew gum and walk at the same time and act first then pray?

“God doesn’t change, people change” someone used to tell me. I’d say, “yeah, well of course we change, God made us that way, otherwise we’d be still crawling instead of walking”. IMO, medicine is gift from God. He gave us the capaciy to learn and apply our knowledge for the better of all. I have no idea what the rationale is behind rejecting medical technology. That boy’s problem (as well as his cousin’s) had a very easy fix. :confused:

I don’t know if I wanna get into arguing about religion and refusal of life-saving medical intervention, let alone no-brainers, especially for children, who aren’t old enough to consent either way. Nah, I think I’ll save my energy 🙂

They were beyond the age of reason by catholic terminology. Yet, they are considered minors and under parental control on life saving issues, as are JW minors.

It’s very scary.
