Meditating on the Mysteries of the Rosary

Is meditating on the Mysteries of the Rosary the same as saying the Rosary? I was told to meditate on the Luminious Mysteries as a penance. I said the Rosary and then realized that maybe I was suppose to do something else.
 
Saying the prayers is good. I usually consider meditating on the rosary as contemplating each mystery before praying each decade. I think about the meaning behind each mystery and how it applies to me. But praying earnestly and meditating both have the same ends which are to focus on our Lord, Jesus Christ.

A good book on meditations on the Mysteries of the Rosary is **The Rosary: Chain of Hope **by Father Benedict Groeschel.
