Have any CAF members met in real life? Do we ever have meet-ups?

Years ago, I did meet a friend I made on CAF that lived in Ireland, when she came for a visit. Twice.

I have hopes to meet another friend soon.

I met someone who was on CAF at the time but is no longer. (Her inactivity predates the transition to Discourse by a few years, in case anyone thinks she jumped ship at that time.) We still keep in touch as our schedules allow. …well, as my schedule allows. 😩

We’ve met in person twice and are trying to find a time suitable for a third get-together, but so far that’s proven difficult (we live in different countries).

No offense, but the idea of a group CAF meet-up sends my introverted self running in the opposite direction 😊

Yeah, there are a handful of people on here who seem like it would be okay to meet, but quite a few who I hope I never run into IRL. Can you imagine CAF people all hanging out and somebody judging based on your outfit or whether you are having a second beer or, heaven forbid, if we go to Mass and someone doesn’t kneel up straight, uses Orans position, or doesn’t sing loud enough.

I would fail on three of those four tests. I kneel up pretty straight, but that’s all. (I don’t think the outfit test applies to men, does it?) In addition, I would probably fail the Trump test, because I don’t actually hate and despise him.

Over the years I’ve met a handful of CAF members IRL. Some become lifelong friends and others…not so much.

One of my closest friends from work used to post on CAF a lot, but we knew each other before there was a CAF. He got involved in some of the serious debates (unlike me), but then he stopped contributing about two years ago for his own peace of mind.

Misread the title as IRL meaning Ireland… ah well… Yes, one. We met way before I joined the forum.

None yet, although there seem to be a number of members from Southern California.

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)
I would meet anyone for coffee at Denny’s :coffee:

I attended a Symphonic Concert at Heinz Hall two years ago. My brother briefly lived on Squirrel Hill. Went to Dave & Buster’s long ago 🤔

T’wern’t any Internet when I moved from The Burgh to do my 10 year penance near Chicago, so the good Deacon was likely just a glimmer in his parents eye.

We had to walk to school in the snow, uphill, barefoot, both ways.that toughened us up. Particularly when we called each other with tin cans connected with string. Those tin cans had sharp edges, you know.

And no water bottles for that walk to school either. You had to suck water out of a puddle if you were thirsty!

Back in my day, we didn’t go to school. Instead, we built log cabins and railroads.

You are lucky. Log cabins had just been invented, and there were no railroads.

We who were planting the trees had no time for school anyway.
