Meghan Trainor's hit is about marriage instead of tired hookup culture

It’s cute and I can see the standpoint of treating a potential wife as a lady that Trainor’s trying to get across, but the presentation kind of comes across as entitlement.

And if my future spouse doesn’t know how to cook then she better learn how to. Cooking is a basic skill. I know I to cook, but what if I’m unable to for a week or a couple of nights?

She’s trying to say that he shouldn’t EXPECT a wife to only cook.
Men need to learn to cook too.

Seriously, it’s okay to have expectations, and cooking is pretty important, but if you find a mate who is perfect for you in every way except that she won’t cook, you better not say “you better.” 😉
 
At this point in our cultural journey, it’s nice that a song is talking marriage at all!

And I thought she was saying “Even if the Bible’s wrong”, and I thought Meghan Trainor is dropping an anti-Christian jab. Thank goodness those weren’t the actual words to the song.

I don’t know, I keep on hearing (and anticipating) anti-religious messages in some popular songs these days ever since that Hozier belted out his offensive tune. And with that I have to say Trainor’s song is a bit refreshing to hear. Says something about today’s culture I guess. 🤷

Her music is really refreshing fro young women.
I see nothing wrong with her lyrics.

It’s also extremely hurtful and insensitive to the single men (particularly 30+ and 40+) who WANT to get married but can’t find any girlfriends. Case in point: Unlike in Mormon & LDS circles, where the wards actively participate in HELPING those single men find suitable wives, the overwhelming majority of Catholic diocese are wholly indifferent on the matter. Indeed, I know the response I’ll get for posting this: “Oh, it’s not the Church’s job to find you a wife.” So, yeah…I get it. If I’m still single after 30, still single after 40, being single is a “vocation” and I never find “the one” and never get to participate in some sacraments, then too bad, so bad. For single young men who want to get married, getting dirty looks from parishoners (couples and families with small kids) does wonders for the self-esteem. 😦
