I have a recollection that in The Passion somewhere there is a fleeting shot of two demon-characters grasping each other in a mock embrace - either in an attempt to mock Christ or might have been in one of the Judas scenes

Don’t whatever you do go wasting your time searching for it - but anyone out there knows if such a scene exists and knows roughly where in the film it occurs I would be grateful of the info.

Apart from the time it would take me - watching the Passion is never something I would do lightly - certainly not something I would want to do looking for a particlular bit. In truth I think The PAssion will be a once a year film for me (if that) - a Lenten reflection

To my mind the scene you are talking about is when Christ is getting scourged whilst tied to the pillar. so it should be in the second half of the film I imagine.

To me, that shows satan, cradelling his little (hideous!!!) Child, and He is rubbing it in Christs Face-saying if you had followed my ways, I would have been a kind father to you! You would not have to suffer in my plan for the world!

I am currently reading The Theology of THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST by Monica Migliorino Miller. I find it well written with a lot of insight explaining various matters in the film.

She starts out with the premise that it is not a drama - no plot or conflict, no character development. It is an aid to meditation like an Old Master’s painting. We already know the story; this brings it home.

Wow! Yes, that is exactly how it is! I had not thought about it that way, but when you said that, it clicked with me that that was exactly the way it affected me.
One thing I have noticed especially, is that when I am doing the sorrowful mysteries in the rosary, over & over, the scenes from that movie play in my head.

Zooey, you are getting a bigger allotted space in my head for even having mentioned the rosary and the details sourounding it. I get the same pictures. Not for effect, simply because the sorrow was so deeply felt and remembered.

I also have flashes of my son struggaling for breath, but his death is still fresh for me, and i believe that the light he drew from the pain, as he did believe god wanted him to learn from everything…that i understand more of the mystery, nescesity, and the outcome spiritually for suffering in any form.

As for the movie, i did not remember the part mentioned by blackfish. Good one! I do remember enjoying the deepness, and the lengths of evil the evil was. It had a sweeter face (and could be) but it remained in my mind, that evil does not have to have a pretty face, that it is deceptive, and manipulative as well.

You see, i see the intent of others deeper than others around me do. I have their scinario plotted out before me, tell others when asked, that they are not someone i plan on spending time with for insert reason and they are always shocked that a month down the road, that i was right. I can not see what is devious in them…i sense it, and simply feel the difference with me also asking God if i can truse etc…after i have sensed it. I do not simply trust myself. It was nice to see the work with a visual, as some of the people i have experienced this strong feeling in have been very evil…with a sweet smile. (example: my ex, and the many male boys that he sexually abused…I knew before i knew about the victums and their names.)

This movie is a movie that i would save for helping others understand the passion, if they were interested…as any good movie is better when the discussion is there afterwards. The other reason would be on a holiday, alone, so that i could personally meditate on ways that this apreciation can become stronger in me.

Thanks all…good topic!
