How to shut a church down, literally depends upon why it is closing.
Congregation size and average Sunday worship data for the US is from the National Congregations Study, Barna Group reports, and US Congregations/PCUSA.
I’ve forgotten where I obtained UK data from.
I thought the Australian data was from NCLS, but looking at their report for 2001, it claims that the average size of a congregation in Australia in between 60 and 70 people.
Conversion rates are from various sources.

I’ve read half a dozen or so books on how to shut a church down. I don’t remember titles though. What this pastor noted was that there were many, many books telling how to grow a congregation, but none on how to shut one down.
adherents.com/ is probably the single most comprehensive source of statistical data about religions.could you give the source for your statistics? I would like to share them with our church council.

- How to Win Souls by Eugene Myers Morrison (1952)
- The Emerging House Church Networks by Larry Kreider (2009)
There were a couple of other books as well, but I didn’t write down the bibliographic data.
I was more interested about the increase in the apparent number of people needed to convert one person to Christianity, over the last century, than who was providing the data.
