i had an opportunity today to see what some think is a miraculous picture… taken by a digital camera of a young girl shooting fireworks…and what seems to be her guardian angel (or some entity) right by her side… another picture taken immediately after showed no such entity…

in sharing this picture with friends and family, with an accompanying letter, this statement was made…prompting my question

**Quote:**where an angel is a soul/spirit that has made it to heaven and God has given them the assignment to be a guardian over an earthly being

the previous part of the letter was talking about ghosts and those in purgatory… contrasting them with angels…

so i immediately felt this was inaccurate … angels are pure spirit created by God, to do His bidding, right?

man, though made less than angels,(Psalm 8:4-5) can never aspire to be an angel…indeed according to 1 Corinthians 6:1-3 we will judge angels upon obtaining the Beatific Vision…

so what say my learned board colleagues…

👋 Not learned simply an amateur but here is my two cents, as you state angels are pure spirits created by God; but anything is possible with God.

I have had more than one experience where God intervened for me through the angel, God can allow the angel to come in many ways even through a man, woman or a child.

If you look at evil you see the same, the devil also allows demons to work through people. Say a seductress women, bosses, etc.
I have heard about both cases, and have seen some very interesting cases on different shows.
So an angel is pure spirit, but anything is possible with God. It shows the omnipotence of God in our everyday lives.

No angels are not spirits of men at all, but a SEPARATE order of created beings from God. Angels were created before man was. Angels are greater in power then men, both while men physically live in this world and in the next. Yes, there are guardian angels for each one of us.

I don’t think the post said spirit of men, but yes angels are pure spirits, and have been used by God through man, example in the book of Tobit where St. Raphael is a man used as a guide.

I think it is Paul’s writings somewhere that he talks about “Angels unaware”. Does anyone know the location in the bible. Just curious.

Right. An angel is not a mere “soul” but a pure spirit, created before the first man and therefore, unlike humans they never had physical bodies in the first place. To say they are “souls” would erroneously imply that they are the souls of deceased humans, which is **not **Catholic teaching, and is reminiscent of New Age/Swedenborgian thought.

Yet we should likewise remember that while angels are superior to men, yet men were created in the image and likeness of God. (Genesis 1:26).
