Although this is a rather embarrassing topic for me, lately it’s been gnawing on my mind. I finally decided to bring it up here, since I can’t find anything on the internet related to this.

I know cross-dressing is sinful, and I never plan to do that. Lately I have been taking pleasure in wearing makeup, though. Lipstick, eyeliner, mascara, eye shadow … and I’m a guy. Do you all think I should stop – and nip it in the bud – before it becomes a habit and I can’t stop? Men wear makeup for movies, the evening news, etc., so why can’t I wear it on my own time to enhance my looks? Of course, not everyone might think it’s an improvement, but I like it … :o And maybe their makeup *is *a bit different than what I’m wearing … I’m just confused. I don’t know …

Please give me your thoughts, and be honest! May God bless and keep you all. Thanks!

I think it might be a good idea NOT to indulge in this little aberation. Yes, It could lead to weirder things down the road.

My son is dating a lovely girl. The only thing is, her father became a woman! It started out ‘innocently’ with cross dressing and led to a sex change operation! His facination turned to obsession gradually. Eventually he dumped his family and decided to go all the way. His daughter doen’t talk to him anymore.

Think of it as a gateway drug. (not that you’ll end up like that)

I don’t think that it is a sin necessarily(I don’t know your heart), but obsessive vanity is.

WhiteDove,

I’ve often thought of that … the possibility that wearing makeup might lead to more serious things down the road. At this point in time, I could never imagine myself cross-dressing. I’ve always been comfortable and completely aware that I’m a man, and I’m content staying that way. But you never know what I’ll think in the future, if I keep wearing makeup, and continue thinking that it’s harmless.

That poor girl! That’s a perfect example of what could happen to someone, if they go overboard. And yes, it doesn’t mean that’s what will happen to me, but it’s an excellent warning! Thanks for your (name removed by moderator)ut.

Lorik,

Hmm … I guess sometimes it feels like a sin, to me. Usually before or after I get done doing it, not during the process. It certainly could become an addictive and vainglorious pursuit … it makes me wonder why I do it in the first place. Why can’t I be content with the way I look naturally? When I wear makeup, it’s just to make me feel prettier … “oh, look how beautiful I am!” That probably isn’t very healthy.

Thanks for the help, and the reminder about the dangers of vanity!

I dont think it’s a sin…why would it be obsessive vanity for a man and not a woman? as long as it doesn’t lead to a full on sex change, i don’t see the problem with it at all. Maybe you are just trying to express something, a certain creativity. I know plenty of guys that wear makeup, they aren’t cross-dressers, they’ll wear a skirt once in a whle, but hey, Jesus wore a dress so I don’t see the problem. just make sure it doesnt lead to any sinful homosexual fantasies (which I doubt it will)!!

I don’t even like a lot of makeup on my wife. Personally, I like the way God made us and in general don’t see a need for changing the way we look. (Well, other than that mullet I used to have, that was good to get rid of! )
😃

God loves you just the way you are and many of us should take a clue from Him on that! Be proud of yourself just how you are.👍

Good luck,

John

Jesus did not wear a dress, and that comment – though I’m sure meant as just a joke – is very disrespectful to Our Lord; i.e., equating him – Lord and Savior of the World – with those men you know who wear skirts and makeup. :tsktsk:

I’m not sure its a sin, but its unusual for a man to want to do such things. I think its a slippery slope that might just lead you to where you do not want to go. As for attractiveness to women, personally it turns me off to see a man wear any kind of makeup. Makes me think he is living a gay lifestyle. Don’t do it.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to offend…it wasn’t a joke i was being serious, i guess i should’ve said robe, it’s the same thing to me. I wasn’t putting Jesus in the same category as us, i was just saying, if Jesus wore a robe/dress whatever, than I’m sure it’s fine for a man to wear a skirt.

Robes and kilts are not skirts. Just like shirts are not blouses. I’m sure in Jesus’ day there was a distinguishable character in women’s clothing from men’s.

It certainly seems wrong to me - for men to wear makeup. And I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s OK for women either.

What do you end up looking like?

Actors and TV personalities wear makeup because they would look disgustingly pale on camera. However, the make-up jobs on male actors do not detract from the masculine appearance. Generally the purpose is to preserve the masculine appearance.

I think you need to look at your underlying motives for wearing the makeup. Are you concerned about getting older and you want to cover up some wrinkles? Maybe you could get some older male friends (maybe at the K of C) and then you will feel better about your imperfections. 🙂

On the other hand, if the underlying motive is to look more feminine, then maybe you should ask for the prayers of St Joseph to help you want to be masculine. Not sure about this one, but it couldn’t hurt.

If you aren’t happy with your gender, you should definitely seek counseling to try to determine the underlying issues.

Pray about it, ask God to help you be honest with yourself about your intentions.

God Bless,
Iguana

The fact that it is an embarrassing topic for you should be an indication. How do you want to present yourself to the Lord? Do you wear makeup to church?

Many years ago I was at a lecture at the famous Mission San Juan Capistrano. Across the aisle from me was a man whose fingernails, for some reason, caught my attention. They were covered with clear fingernail polish. I never had seen something like that on a man.

It turned out he was Bob Dornan, the future Congressman from Orange County. At the time he was a newscaster or commentator on, I think, Channel 5 in Los Angeles. The fingernail polish was part of the on-set make-up. I suppose the pancake and whatever other make-up he wore before the cameras could be wiped off easily enough after each show, while the fingernail polish had to be left on.

I knew a CFO of a mid-sized corporation who was a self-made millionaire. He was in his sixties, but he regularly would receive a manicure, finished with clear nail polish. He equated it with looking presentable, no different than having his hair permed so it stayed in place. But I wondered if there was also a sense of feeling that he was better than the minions with dull nails.

Dear Albedo,

Please excuse me for this, I wonder whether there is/was malfunction in your homelife…I looked on your stats…you are young… Here’s my thoughts:
Wearing makeup like you described would make you look quite feminine. I see your picture. You are an attractive young person.
As you mature the bone structures you have will take on a much more chiseled appearance and it will be quite a pleasing effect!

Do you ever feel not quite masculine when you compare yourself to other men? Do you feel inadequate in a manly sense at all?

My male cousin liked to wear makeup…so I have some experience with what happened to him etc…and that is what makes me ask!

Love in Jesus,
Shelby Grace

Heh, indeed! When I first saw that he responded to my thread, it was like “Wow … Karl Keating …? Awesome!” Sort of like meeting a rock star, in that regard. 😃
