Menstruation impurity

As a woman I don’t believe menstruation is the nicest thing in the world. It’s a bit smelly and messy. But certainly a woman can keep herself clean through use of modern sanitary items etc, and showers/baths. The problem is that rules of cleanliness became religious rules for the Jews and still are. The Jews believed cleanliness was next to Godliness and blood was certainly very dirty. As Christians we should not judge a person on outside cleanliness and menstruation is necessary for the wellbeing of an embryo/baby so it should be valued for that reason.

The fact that Jews were willing to turn people into outcasts because they were seen as “dirty” is something that Jesus attacked but something we all have to be aware of and try to overcome in ourselves.

I believe there is some confusion concerning the word IMPURE.

As I understand it, the root of the word is more like SET ASIDE. This can be either because the one is in a higher state or lower state than other things.

A menstruating woman would be “impure”=set aside for a time to mourn her failure to conceive, her failure to receive the most blessed gift from God, a child.

She is then purified (brought back to the common society) through a certain ritual.

The Eucharistic cup is “impure”=set aside and, through the process of purification, it is brought back to common use (and can be touched by anyone, cleaned by anyone, but must first be purified by an ordained minister).

Those white cloths used at communion are ‘purificators’, used to purify the cup holding the Blood of Christ.

The cup is impure because it hold the Blood of Christ!!! Not a bad thing.

What makes ‘today’s’ definition of what is or is not sexist , so to speak? Suppose that 200 years from now our descendants find our own ‘enlightened’ society guilty of unspeakable abuse against something that we, right now, don’t find ‘abusive’ at all. (For example, let’s say that 200 years from now our descendants insist that children function ‘best’ in a commune and are livid at US for ‘abusing’ our children in forcing them to live in families instead). So. . .we would be judged on their standards even though by our standards our behavior was not only normal, but actually judged to be BEST for the child… .
YES! Another moral relativist 😛
