Dear Brothers and Sisters,

From today’s Gospel for Mercy Sunday:
Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever hears my word
and believes in the one who sent Me
has eternal life and will not come to condemnation,
but has passed from death to life.

Amen, amen, I say to you, the hour is coming and is now here
when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God,
and those who hear will live. ( Jn 5:17-30)
Whenever Jesus uses the words “Amen, Amen” we need to pay special attention; the word “Amen” comes from the Hebrew word for “Truth”. Jesus IS our Way our Truth and our Life. He speaks His Truth to us that we may do the Truth we hear, as Mary did on this earth, by the power of His holy Spirit – and as all the saints throughout the ages have done.

Come Holy Spirit, fil the hearts of Your Faithful. Jesus, we trust in You! Mary, Mother and Model for the Church, pray for us. St. Faustina, pray for us, St. Louis de Montfort, pray for us.

Dearest Greenfields,

Thanks so much for your reply – and all your replies which have encouraged me, and that is, indeed, God’s desire: that we do as He tells us:
…living the truth in love, we should grow in every way into Him who is the Head, Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, with the proper functioning of each part, brings about the body’s growth and builds itself up in love. (Eph 4:15-16)
When I got to Mass this morning, I discovered I had looked up the Gospel for another date – but I believe that God intended me to ponder the verses I posted and perhaps wanted others to ponder those verses too! Certainly on this Mercy Sunday His Heart is overflowing with Love and Peace for all who open the ears of their hearts to listen and to do the Truth. 🙂

Many blessings to all on this beautiful Feast Of God’s Mercy. It was special for me to renew my Total Consecration which is the perfect renewal of my Baptismal Promises. Baptism was the beginning of “New Life” in Christ for me and for all of us. How grateful I am!

I had a momentary worry that I had written a homily on the wrong Gospel, lol.
I am preaching about Divine Mercy at the next Mass: One key point - the very first act of our Risen Lord with the apostles is to breath on them and give them authority to forgive sins. His first act is to empower them with His own mercy.

Dear Diaconia,

Thanks so much for your reply, Deacon Christopher. I can only imagine your moment of worry, lol.

Seriously, though, I believe God wanted me to read that particular Gospel and interestingly – it seems to me – I have clicked on either that particular Mass Gospel for the Day – or one very similar to it – just recently. A “sample” of His many mercies in giving our “daily bread” in mysterious ways. 🙂
