MERGED: What is your parish/diocese doing for the Year of Faith?

Turns out my parish has a coordinator for our Year of Faith activities - a lay person who is handling the publicity for events, scheduling, etc. She says there will be many special events throughout the year. We have start up events now and we are focused on the 40 Days for Life. I am really looking forward to participating in as much as possible!

Well last weekend we had a retreat to PREPARE for the Year of Faith (YoF). I have assembled a team of 12 to steer the year of faith and we came up with a programme for the year. Yesterday we took a coach load of parishioners to the Cathedral in Brentwood, UK, for the inaugural Mass. We had doughnuts and hymns on the way back. We are showing the DVD set ‘Catholicism’ by Fr Robert Barron on Thursdays (Matinee and evening showings). I’ll be working through Youcat through the year in the homilies. we have a ‘Mass for the Lapsed’ in November followed by a buffet meal, December Carols round the Crib with the school to draw in those on the margins. January an Ecumenical Meal with all the local denominations. Lent we are looking at the Saints. Pilgrimage to Poland in April, May devotions, June a Parish away day, July is my birthday . any other suggestions gratefully received.

Since I am starting a new job at a new parish on Monday, and I usually become part of the parish where I work, I don’t yet know what they are doing. But since it is the cathedral parish I am sure they have things planned. Our bishop also wrote a Pastoral Letter for the Year of Faith.
