Because person A did NOT do it “simple for the adoration of his fellow men”. He did it because he felt it was the right thing to do.
You quote Jesus. Either Jesus did not mean what you think he meant. Or Jesus never said that. Or Jesus was mistaken. Or Jesus was telling us that god is immoral.
Or maybe Jesus was saying we can’t earn our way to heaven by doing good. The debt is simply too big.

Now, did the person do it even though he was ignorant of Christ? Then Christ could still be working through the person and he is saved. But did the person look at the teachings of Christ, reject them, and then do good things?

That’s not very helpful to his salvation. We can’t boast of our works.
