Mericulous metal

I’d like the true meaning of the “Mericulous Metal”; as a child it was explained to me, but since I’m no longer a child I can’t remember all that was taught. Like on the front of the metal:Mary standing on the Earth and a serphant below her feet (does that mean She’s in charge of the earth and stamps out Saten?) The prayer around it is to be said, and each time a 300 da.indulgence is included. On the back side:The cross, a bar and M, with two hearts underneath, and circled with 12 stars…What does those symbles mean? Also, is it a rightful replacement of the brown scapler?
