(Apologies if this is in the wrong category I didn’t really know where to post this.)

Did anyone else see Netflix tweet a trailer for it? It’s supposed to drop on New Years. Basically it’s a political thriller about how the modern world would respond to the second coming of Jesus Christ. But the person claiming to be Jesus is not what he seems.

Possible spoilers ahead??? Don’t keep reading if you don’t want to know anything more and want to wait for it to come out. Skip to the very bottom paragraph.

A lot of viewers pointed out that the figure appears very similar to the Islamic version of the Antichrist (al masih ad-dajjal “the false messiah”) and the character’s name on the show is literally Al-Masih. In Islamic tradition the Antichrist will impersonate Jesus Christ and lead many people astray (in some traditions it will be mainly the Jews who are led astray for some reason), he will be able to do miracles and demand worship. This is supposed to be the big twist in the show especially since the creators are clearly assuming only western audiences will be watching, that way they won’t expect the twist.

Will any of you guys be watching this? What are your impressions? Do you think Netflix should show this despite some of the outrage in the online Islamic community. Here is a trailer: MESSIAH Trailer (2020) Netflix - YouTube

Netflix and the majority of secular media twist and change the faith to suit their own goals which usually are not to bring people to the faith. I can use my time doing something wlsw. But thats me.

I don’t think it’s twisting anything. It’s just for entertainment purposes as a compelling scenario.

I will probably watch it out of curiosity, both as a former pre-millenial pre-tribulationist and as someone who has had fingers in Arab / Islamic culture.

There’s no point in watching it. If it’s a Netflix series it’s going to be cancelled after 1 or 2 seasons. Netflix only does series to make its library look bigger. I’m still outraged by the cancellation of ‘The OA’.

I won’t be watching it, not because of the premise but because I don’t have Netflix. Everyone at work treats me like they’ve found a unicorn when they learn about it. Even if I did have Netflix I wouldn’t be drawn to watch it anyway because it’s just not a plot I’d be interested in.

I’m not really a fan of T. V. shows in general, but if I was, I’d still find the premise not to my liking, which is only increased by the way that the media uses religion.

I think it’s a really bad idea and won’t be watching it. I enjoy a lot of Netflix shows, but I hate when they just use Christ as another clever plot device. And I don’t care for the actor they use. And if he turns out to be the Antichrist, that might turn people off to the real Christ.
If you want to watch an entertaining Netflix series, watch Travelers.
