The lyrics and imagery of the band are very dark; lots of blood, gore, satanic stuff. Typical heavy metal.
Their singer however is openly catholic and sees no problem in the contrast between the band’s image and his beliefs.
I think he’s right; confronting people with the dark sides of life (and afterlife) and the existence of evil is what a writer like Dante or a painter like Bosch did as well. The Apocalypse in the bible has very dark passages of course. Modern rap and pop music in which the existence of the devil is denied and greed, having as much sex as possible, making money, being ‘succesful’ etc are viewed as the goals in life probably satisfies the devil much more.
However, many christians have big problems with heavy metal bands while I just love the music. What are your thoughts? Thank you.
