I was playing a metal song earlier and someone said it was too loud. I think stuff like 1812 overture with cannon would be way louder though.

Since we weren’t there, we don’t know how far you had the volume turned up. 🙂
You could play the 1812 Overture at very low volume, and Brahms’ Lullaby so loud it would bother people.

Unless it is a live performance, volume is a pretty silly thing to criticize a genre for. I’d imagine most people criticize metal for its volume are referencing something else.

Yup. I had the music playing not that loud at all, and the person told me to turn it down. Yet the rap the person plays on pandora on their phone is much louder. Go figure.

So, what are you hoping to accomplish by creating this thread? 🤔

I was at a rock show that was too loud the other night. I was slightly deaf when I left, that means it was too loud as I always stand in the back.

I fell asleep at an Iron Maiden concert years ago. It was loud, but no match for my powers of sleeping 😴

Turn down the volume.

And get offa my lawn
*shakes fist

Back when I was going to school full time and working a physically-demanding job near-full-time, I would often find myself falling asleep listening to bands like Iron Maiden and Nightwish, even with the volume turned up quite a bit.

If the music is too loud
You are too old

(Mantra from my younger days.)

It is kind to consider others when listening to anything at high volume. If you want to blast it out, get some bluetooth headphones (better than ear buds) and destroy your hearing to your hearts content.

Yeah, I slept through many a concert especially in my younger days when I had a job or classes I was expected to be physically present for at 7 or 8 am. There was a corner of the stage at the “old 9:30” club in DC (closed years ago, not the one they have now) where I used to sit and doze off. I was never hassled or thrown out for this. The most memorable band I slept through was the Minutemen playing one of their last shows before D. Boon was killed.

You’d think that would work, but I’ve heard people who played it so loud that everyone else in the room could clearly hear it. At that volume, they’re also unlikely to hear you tell them to turn it down.

Any sound can seem loud to somebody, depending on its type… if it was a song they liked and were enjoying listening to it, they may not think so. Someone with a hearing aid, or someone who is protective of their hearing, could find something too loud. If they’re trying to concentrate on something else… then it would be too loud for them, too. Also, they may just have not been in the mood to listen to any kind of noise.

When it comes to metal, nothing is too loud enough. The louder, the better.

Well, certain styles of melodic and atmospheric metal should probably have more control over the volume and not just go at it as loud as possible.
