Hello all, I wondered if anyone could offer me some advice. My 11 year old daughter loves polished stones. All different colours. We used to buy them at a store called Green Earth but they shut down. There were questionable items, but we were only there to smell candles and buy rocks. Locally there is a store that sells all sorts of rocks. However, it is described as a “metaphysical supply store” and the pictures show spell books to buy, bones, tarot books…just all sorts of the occult.
I thought we should not go because I don’t want her exposed to anything “alluring” by its very nature. But am I being overly concerned?

I think at age 11 you should maybe find another rock shop that focuses more on just selling rocks and gems. It’s easy for a kid to get distracted by some cool-looking occult item when they’re a tween, and if her main interest is pretty colored rocks, she will be able to find a better selection, more stuff related to rocks (not Tarot or whatever), and probably better prices, at an actual rock and gem shop.

My mother had a gem tumbler and used it to make her own polished stones. All sizes and colors, some of them were gorgeous and it made for an interesting hobby.

Excellent, thank you so much. I agree and will look around…it was shocking and I just…😬.

Yeah they are a lot of fun.
Just be warned that the tumbler takes many days to finish the process, so if your child is not the patient sort they might get bored before any pretty rocks emerge.

Museum gift shops and Buc-ee’s gas stations are both great sources for polished stones. But with the internet, there are websites devoted to selling tumbled rocks, too, and you can buy them wholesale. 🙂

Yes you are right to be concerned. Good on you for asking these questions. Some of these places put curses etc on their goods before selling them. If you do buy anything get it blessed.

Another way to buy small minerals and gemstones is to jump on Geology type sites and buy from those shops.
She can also get little geological magnifying eyes and all sorts of interesting things a budding earth scientist would love,.

Rock tumblers are fun and noisy and seem to break down a lot, especially the big ones…They can also damage the mineral if not working well.
She might develop an interest in polished and unpolished minerals.

Sounds to me whoever is owns the store has absolutely zero knowledge about the definition of metaphysics.

Ha ha ha :). That’s what I was thinking and why I used the quotations as I wasn’t sure that was even a thing. I am not much of a philosopher but I always thought that is what it was all about…philosophy. Not occult 🤔.

I had told my daughter, prior to making my final decision, that if we went, we would pray before and after. And also if we bought anything to pray over it…blessed even better. But at this point I have many more great ideas :). Thank you so much!
