I wouldn’t argue that MM’s films are academically accurate, but he does cause one to think about issues of social justice.
I’m sorry, but that’s like suggesting that everyone read Da Vinci Code because it would get them thinking about the Catholic Church.

No need to be sorry; you are entitled to your opinion. 👍

However, I don’t see your analogy as very apt because, Da Vinci Code is simply false information (i.e. Jesus had sex with Mary Magdalene)? Admittedly, I have not read Da Vinci Code, but this is what I understand from book reviews and such.

Whereas, I don’t think anyone would argue with the basic facts which are covered in MM’s films: the closing of the GM plant in Flint, MI due to outsourcing of labor to the third world and the devastation that was left in its wake (“Roger and Me”), to name just one of his films.

Critical thinking skills are required in order to understand the way in which he presents the issues. And, yes, he is often irreverent in his approach.

First of all MIchael Moore is not a trained Journalist. So he has no professional obligation to be fair and balanced like a trained investigative reporter.
Huh? Since when are reporters obligated to be fair and balanced? Most openly admit their bias.
Secondly at least he is bringing this issues to the forefront of america’s dialectic. Whats more important what Britney Spears or Lindsdey Lohan is up to or the state of our national healthcare.
I don’t think anyone would disagree that it is good to bring important issues up for discussion. What is, however, more important is to be honest. He clearly is not.
Thirdly, whats important is his motivations. He openly said in the same interview that he wouldnt mind if kids wanted to pirate and copy his movies as long as his message is getting out to the public.
Wonderful, all he cares about is getting his message out, but he doesn’t care about the real truth. So please, spread his lies and pass them along so that all can see them. I believe it was Hitler who stated that if you tell a lie often enough then people will believe it.

Please define “basic facts” because there is no question that Mr Moore twists those to his own agenda. Yes jobs are outsouced, that is true. But the reasons he provides are not true, complete or without bias. Consequenty the message spread is based on falsehoods.

Just curious, but who’s social justice? Are the 3rd world nations not worthy of jobs? And if GM were not to export jobs and then were to go out of business and close down their plants completely would there be any justice to that? Is keeping some jobs more socially justifiable than keeping no jobs at all? Is there any justice in having jobs spread over a wide geographic area, or do all the jobs that GM keeps have to remain in its old/antiquated factories with high labor legacy costs in order for there to be any social justice? And is there any social justice in labor unions that force GM to pay labor rates that keep its cars overpriced in a world market?

Michael Moore’s movies don’t show the truth, they show his very biased opinion.

Last night on ABC John Stossel had another one of his specials. He debunked Moore’s argument almost entirely. I wish I could provide a link, but I really can’t. If you want I could relay what I remember…

I wouldn’t take Michael Moore’s opinion as presented in his films as seriously as I would other, more academic sources.

The Shock Doctrine - The Rise of Disaster Capitalism by Naomi Klein is a far more academic approach to the subject matter. She has coined the term “disaster captialism” to describe the economic exploitation of communities who, still reeling from catastrophe, lose their land to aggressive corporate makeovers.

There is an extensive bibliography and filmography on this website:

naomiklein.org/shock-doctrine/the-book

These sources I would consider seriously. MM’s films are merely entertaining, albeit thought-provoking.

Many would argue they are neither.
Why do you claim that St. Gabriel Possenti is the patron saint of handguns when he is not? The alleged incident of the saint defending his town that is referred to in your website was unlikely since St. Gabriel was in an advanced stage of tuberculosis in the year 1860. Even in the fanciful story the saint is not carrying a gun, but grabs one from a soldier in order to defend a woman. He doesn’t use the gun to shoot people, but aims it at a lizard.

Why do you criticize Michael Moore for his inaccuracies when yours are far greater?

St. Gabriel Possenti is the patron saint of Catholic youth, of students and those studying for the priesthood. Here is an unbiased article about the life of the saint complete with bibliography:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Gabriel_of_Our_Lady_of_Sorrows

Certainly, St. Gabriel Possenti never killed anyone, unlike the fellow who is being honored on your website, nor did he waste his life advocating gun ownership.
