Michael D O'Brien books

Have any of you read the Michael D O’Brien books? Specifically these three which form a series: Strangers and Sojourners, Eclipse of the Sun, and Plague Journal?

I read the first (Strangers and…), loved it and was going to move on to the second but have read conflicting information as to their order; I believe they go in the order in which I’ve listed them but have seen the second two reversed in order enough times to give me doubts.

Can anyone help?

I have read Father Elijah which was great. I started Strangers and Soujourners but got sidetracked so I want to wait until I can read all three back to back.

I read Father Elijah, and enjoyed it very much.

I slogged through Stranger and Sojourners.

I suffered through *Eclipse of the Sun *and Plague Journal. Maybe “suffered” is too strong a word, but I remember feeling at the time :twocents: that it began to feel like O’Brien was disappointed when the millennium came and went without the Second Coming. :twocents:

I would recommend going with the order Strangers and Sojourners, Plague Journal, then Eclipse of the Sun. That’s the chronological order. But Eclipse of the Sun was published before Plague Journal, if I recall correctly. That’s probably why you see conflicting orders.

I think the ending of Plague Journal is somewhat spoiled for the reader if you read Eclipse of the Sun first. But maybe you get more out of Plague Journal if you begin with that end in mind. As I didn’t read it that way, I couldn’t say.

I don’t know what tee is talking about. 😛 I loved Eclipse of the Sun. That is my favorite of all of O’Brien’s books.

They are very good if your looking for a Catholic novel, I just started Eclipse of the Sun this afternoon.

I guess O’Brien would be the one to know. 😛 When I get around to rereading these, I’ll have to follow his suggested order and see what difference it makes. 🙂
 
I know the man personally I just saw him at my sisters graduation. He has an annoying but loveable habit of just writing people he knows into his stories and often doesn’t even bother to change names.

We forgive him for it but I fear the day he gets round to me 😉

I think he’s already wrote my dad in. I can’t remember which book but if you see a family of sheep farmers its most likely us.

I’m not very far into Eclipse but it’s very good. It seems like cynical stuff but I think anyone who takes an honest look around knows where he’s coming from. Wild times…
