i hope that michael will make to purgatory that he may have a second change to repent.
Being a Catholic you should know that according to RC dogma, your purgatory isn’t a place for second chances. According to RC dogma all in purgatory will eventually go to heaven. They’re not there to “repent” but (for Catholics) to be purged of unconfessed, venial sins by the pain of fire. What does MJ, a Christ rejecting Muslim, have to do with Catholic “purgatorty?”

This has always seemed like such a major cop out to me. If a church can go through some process and declare that someone is a saint then there is really no reason why they could not follow a similar process and declare someone to be a (hmm whats a good word here?) nonsaint.
Not entirely.

The Catholic church goes through a very rigorous process. They don’t simply declare someone a saint. I don’t know that process, but I know it’s not easy to simply canonize someone as a saint. Part of that process is proof of miracles, which show that the person is indeed in heaven.

Other than that, we simply don’t know. Because we do not know the state of someone’s soul. Only God.

.

**There are Christians who believe in the catholic (small c) church, but have not been taught (or have been taught falsely) about the Catholic (big C) church. They cannot reject what they do not know. ******,
Amen to that.

THANK GOD FOR HIS MERCY.

Every time someone famous dies especially someone who is not perfectly pristine there’s always threads speculating about the state of his or her soul. Really we should pray for the repose of his soul and worry about our own. I think its repugnant to pretend to be in the judgment seat of God and declare a person to be in hell or even presume it. We don’t know how educated MJ was about the Gospel message, we don’t know where is culpability was as far as knowingly rejecting the faith. We don’t know his prayer life, if he had one. We don’t know the state of his soul in his last moments. Only God knows and we should pray for his mercy -because not one of us are deserving -we all fall short.

You’re correct that we ALL fall short. But none of us can bridge the gap, even in a million lifetimes. Have you ever read:Rom 3:21-24 "But now apart from law {the} righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even {the} righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction; for ALL sinned (past tense, in Adam) and (present tense, continually) fall short of the glory of God, being justified (how?) as a gift by His grace (how?) through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus (i.e., the cross of Christ)…MJ didn’t believe this. He converted to Islam which does not believe the Man Christ Jesus accomplished redemption on the cross. Hence, he died in his sins. To pray for him now is futile. If you wanted to pray for him you should have done it while he was living in the hope that he would believe the gospel message, “now,” while still living. As the Scriptures say:2 Cor 5:20 - 6:2 "Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God (through faith in Jesus Christ). He (God) made Him (the Man Christ Jesus) who knew no sin {to be} sin on our behalf (while on the cross), so that we might become the righteousness of God (how?) in Him (i.e., through faith in Him). And working together {with Him,} we also urge you not to receive the grace of God in vain-- for He says, “At the acceptable time I listened to you, and on the day of salvation I helped you,” Behold, NOW (i.e., in this lifetime) is “the acceptable time,” behold, NOW is “the day of salvation”…"There is no salvation after death. NOW one must believe.

Those who have truly believed know NOW that they’ve been saved - and that “by grace through faith,” in Jesus Christ alone, “a gift of God, not as a result works” (Eph. 2:8-9).

Please don’t preach to me, I have the entire Bible several times over. I also have read James 2:14-26 Have you?
What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister has nothing to wear and has no food for the day,and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well,” but you do not give them the necessities of the body, what good is it? So also faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead. Indeed someone might say, “You have faith and I have works.”
Demonstrate your faith to me without works, and I will demonstrate my faith to you from my works. You believe that God is one. You do well. Even the demons believe that and tremble. Do you want proof, you ignoramus, that faith without works is useless? Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered his son Isaac upon the altar? You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by the works. Thus the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called “the friend of God.” See how a person is justified by works and not by faith alone. And in the same way, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she welcomed the messengers and sent them out by a different route? For just as a body without a spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.
But we are straying from the topic. This is a Catholic forum and this is the from the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
“Outside the Church there is no salvation”
846 How are we to understand this affirmation, often repeated by the Church Fathers?335 Re-formulated positively, it means that all salvation comes from Christ the Head through the Church which is his Body:

Basing itself on Scripture and Tradition, the Council teaches that the Church, a pilgrim now on earth, is necessary for salvation: the one Christ is the mediator and the way of salvation; he is present to us in his body which is the Church. He himself explicitly asserted the necessity of faith and Baptism, and thereby affirmed at the same time the necessity of the Church which men enter through Baptism as through a door. Hence they could not be saved who, knowing that the Catholic Church was founded as necessary by God through Christ, would refuse either to enter it or to remain in it.336
847 This affirmation is not aimed at those who, through no fault of their own, do not know Christ and his Church:

Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the Gospel of Christ or his Church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart, and, moved by grace, try in their actions to do his will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience - those too may achieve eternal salvation.337
848 "Although in ways known to himself God can lead those who, through no fault of their own, are ignorant of the Gospel, to that faith without which it is impossible to please him, the Church still has the obligation and also the sacred right to evangelize all men."338
So it is certainly good to pray that God is merciful and to pray for MJ’s soul.

So it is certainly good to pray that God is merciful and to pray for MJ’s soul.
What does “pray that God is merciful” to “MJ’s soul” mean? In what way are you praying that God be merciful to MJ? That God might ignore the redemptive work of Christ on the cross, forget about sin and His offended holiness because of it, and allow MJ into heaven in spite of his sins and unbelief? Or are we to pray that MJ would claim ignorance and that God would recognize Muhammad on his behalf instead of Christ?

How does all this fit into what Peter said:Acts 4:12 "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved."Peter connects salvation to a Person, not a religious organization. And that Person is not named Muhammad, but Jesus Christ.

No, my friend, the truth is it’s too late to pray for MJ. Either one turns from unbelief to belief in Jesus Christ alone for salvation - the forgiveness of sins and the free gift of eternal life in Christ - in this present lifetime, or he/she dies in their sins and suffers the eternal consequence (Jn. 3:14-18; 5:24). God has provided no other way except “through faith” in the One whom He has sent.

It’s good to discuss salvation in light of the reality of a famous person’s death. Most people slip away unnoticed by the world.

You don’t know the state of his soul at the time of his death or what he truly believed or didn’t believe only God knows that. What it means to pray for MJ’s soul comes from 2 Maccabees 43-46
He then took up a collection among all his soldiers, amounting to two thousand silver drachmas, which he sent to Jerusalem to provide for an expiatory sacrifice. In doing this he acted in a very excellent and noble way, inasmuch as he had the resurrection of the dead in view;for if he were not expecting the fallen to rise again, it would have been useless and foolish to pray for them in death. But if he did this with a view to the splendid reward that awaits those who had gone to rest in godliness, it was a holy and pious thought. Thus he made atonement for the dead that they might be freed from this sin.
I’m not going to keep arguing with you. I don’t want to add to this debate over MJ’s soul any further - I leave the state of soul in God’s hands where it should be.

First of all 1 & 2 Maccabees was not considered Scripture by the Jews, and for good reason. Nor did the early church, as a whole, accept any of the Apocrypha as inspired writings. Second, the writer of Maccabees is completely unknown. And what he states concerning the intention and motives of Judas Maccabees in sending money to Jerusalem is the writer’s opinion and interpretation only. Third, the passage reveals that those who died died in the sin of idolatry - a “mortal sin” in the eyes of Catholicism. This is the main passage Catholicism uses to support its dogma of purgatory, but Catholicism itself teaches that those who die with the stain of “mortal sin” on their souls perish, and that purgatory resolves only the stains of “venial” sins. Fourth, the writer is inconsistent in that he states:"But if he did this with a view to the splendid reward that awaits those who had gone to rest in godliness, it was a holy and pious thought."But the dead warriors were idolaters who had been judged by God for their sin. They died in their guilt, not godliness. Fifth, there’s NOTHING in the Law of Moses that calls for a sacrificial provision for the DEAD. Nor does the passage itself prove that Judas himself even believed such a thing. Based on Lev. 4:1 - 6:7 it seems more likely that Judas, according to the Law, sent the money to Jerusalem to provide for a sin or trespass offering to atone for the defilement that the sin of those idolaters had brought upon the camp. So, in that case, the offering would have been for the living, not the dead. The author himself demonstrates confusion. Last but not least, the author of 2 Macc. says that his book is the abridgement of another man’s literary work - not at all an original (2 Macc. 2:23). He concludes the book by saying:“If it is well written and to the point, that is what I wanted; if it is poorly done and mediocre, that is the best I can do” (15:38).Hardly the testimony of a Holy Spirit inspired writing. “Mediocre” is a good description of the Apocrypha. For this reason both the Jews and the early church rejected those writings as Holy Spirit inspired.
I’m not going to keep arguing with you. I don’t want to add to this debate over MJ’s soul any further - I leave the state of soul in God’s hands where it should be.
The problem is you leave the doctrine of salvation to total obscurity. The Scriptures do not.

If a person is a Catholic and dies in a state of grace they are saved. They may go straight to Heaven but more likely Pugatory first. If they die in a state of mortal sin they go to Hell.
Only God knows who is saved and who is not.

Non-Catholic Christians who reject Christ’s Church (the Catholic Church) will not be saved.

People who do not know Christ and his Church but live a life in accordance with Christ’s teachings may be saved (invincible ignorance).

People who know about Christ and his Church and desire more but are denied the opportunity to pursue such a desire may be saved (baptism of desire).

However, Michael Jackson was not a Christian, and dabbled in several false religions.

My personal opinion is that he is not saved.
The Pope himself says those of other religions are brothers and siters in Christ. There are some truths on other christian religions though they are not whole like the Catholic church. There are probably saved but are not spritualy matured which can only be done through the Catholic church. I assume that those who are not Devout Catholics will spend time in purgatory but will have there chance to enter heaven one day. As far as Michael Jackson is concerned or anyone else, it is not are right to give an opinion whether or not he is saved or not. I know we are only human and it is hard not to give an opinion over somthing like who goes where, never the less we are all sinners forgiven or not and until we live without sin we should all as individuals concentrate only on where we personally are going! God bless!

A friend of mine asked me if Michael Jackson is in heaven. He had watched the memorial on Tuesday and was a little disturbed that mostly everyone who was honoring Michael Jackson was saying that he is in heaven already. What does the Church teach on matters of a loved one dying and where their soul goes. How can I help him understand what he asked me? Because that is a very good question and I want to know also. 🙂

Rest in Peace Michael Jackson

:blessyou:

How can anyone expect another human being to have the faintest clue where he is ?

Michael Jackson was never a Christian to begin with. He was raised as a Jehovah’s Witness. Which opens a whole new can of worms on this mostly useless speculation on the state of his soul. Did he actively and deliberately reject Jesus Christ and His truth, or was he truly ignorant of it, not having been taught correctly and not having internalized it?

If God chooses to save someone ignorant of the Truth, that is well within his rights as the Supreme Being, and it is not up to us to tell God what to do. In any case, one is saved through Jesus Christ, who suffered and died for all men. No one but Jesus saves anyone, but how that is accomplished for a non-Christian is soley up to God, who is omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient, and who is a God of Mercy as well as Justice. God has revealed to us what He wants us to know, He has not revealed all there is to know, and some things, such as the state of another person’s soul at the time of their death is one of those things He has not chosen to reveal.

In short, where MJ is, is really unknown to us, and will remain that way.
