Should priests sing into a microphone over top of the choir and cantor?

In my humble opinion, church architecture that requires musicians to use amplification is dreadful.

Sounds like you have an axe to grind. Our music director has the ability to control the output of the priests mic so he sing.s with us and not over us. He does have a good voice though.

I don’t think there is a right answer to this question, just opinions and preferences, so I’ll give mine.

I love when the priests mic gets left on or pics up some part of his prayers or singing we might not normally hear. Especially if they aren’t the best singer. It’s like a little humble earshot from their heart.

Alternatively, if they love to sing and it brings them such joy that they do it loud and boisterously, whether they are good at it or not, I find their joy for it is infectious.

I like that answer.
I wish everyone would preface their responses like that.

My opinion…
I like to hear the priest. Good or bad, I think he should be heard. If he is too loud, we should increase our volume, not decrease his.
