I imagine there are a portion of Aussies and Kiwis here at CAF, so you mates oughtta enjoy this one. I recently discovered perhaps one of the greatest bands ever. Yes, they’re from the 80s but still so wonderful.
Personally, I listen mostly to classic rock (60s-80s) though I leaning more towards 80s pop-rock as of late. David Bowie, Duran Duran, Billy Joel, Huey Lewis, Waterboys, Go-Gos (including Belinda Carlisle’s solo stuff), Debbie Gibson, etc.
Anyway, I was listening to satellite radio one night and heard “Beds are Burning” by Midnight Oil. I was instantly hooked. I downloaded their “Diesel and Dust” album and haven’t stopped listening since. I was completely oblivious to the issue regarding the “Black Fella / White Fella” race relations between the British Empire and the Aborigine tribes. It very closely mirrors the Colonial / Native American issue here in the US. Listening to the album and reading about the bands activism towards the topic really opened my eyes.
This is my favorite track off the album, its called “The Dead Heart”. So here’s the music video for you mates down under to reminisce over what once was, and still is, a great rock band. Cheers
