Might be getting old- but all saints day Question

–Since All saints day ( a holy day of obligation here in the US i know for a fact) is on a sunday (november 1st of 2009), Do they simply hold the mass in regards to All saints day, instead of a “regular” mass?..Or what happens? Is there a special mass for the ‘all saints day’ ?? - I only see one mass scheduled for this sunday at my church, and was unsure if it would be a special mass because of all saints day- or if we almost ‘skip’ the ‘all saints day’ mass this year. Anyone know?

I believe All Saint’s Day takes precedence over the “regular” Sunday propers. So, you’ll get the All Saint’s Day readings instead of “Ordinary Time” (or, if you go to the E.F., “Sunday After Pentacost”) readings.

All Saints takes precedence in both the EF and Ordinary forms. And according to my Traditional calendar; All Saints is a Holy Day of Obligation.

Right. All Saints Day is a Solemnity. Solemnities and Feasts of the Lord, but not other Feasts, supersede Sundays in Ordinary Time.

There is a list of what supersedes what near the end of the introductory material in the Sacramentary - the book priest uses on the altar, not the Lectionary which the reader uses.

Even better each diocese publishes a small book, the ORDO, each year which gives the masses and LOTH directions for each day of that year. The celebration for each day may vary locally for patrons of the diocese, parish etc. There is usually a copy in the Sacristy.
