The holy monks at Prinknash Abbey have changed our usual blend of incense. I think they’ve started adding old car tyres to it. There are dozens of other blends available, but I’d rather not have to buy a pound of each just to compare them. Can anyone recommend a brand or blend that we can use without our younger altar servers feeling sick?

I am a big fan of Prinknash. My pastor (some 40 years ago!!) used it, (the “Sanctuary” blend) and the aroma still brings back many wonderful memories of 40 Hours, stations of the cross, and funeral services. I use it myself today myself. So, I am disappointed to hear that the bend is not what it should be. Any chance the “car tires” were restricted to a single blend? (Gosh, I hope so…I’d really be disappointed to hear the *whole *Prinknash brand has gone south.)

Certainly, I’d recommend blends by some of the Orthodox monasteries in the States. I’d especially recommend especially the products of Monastery Icons: http://www.monasteryicons.com/monasteryicons/Monastery-Incense_A2.html

We use pure frankincense. I went on pilgrimage to the Holy Land and bought this in Jerusalem, right around the corner from the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. I bought (and lugged back!) 10 kilos, which cost me about $5 per pound.

It’s very mild, no perfume, no wood chips or plant parts, and smells quite pleasant. Just the resin. It’s coarse and we have to grind it up. We use a mortar and pestle to do that.

Find someone in your parish who is going on a pilgrimage and give them a mission!

here’s some that a couple that my parish uses that i’m quite satasfied. i am often thurifer. I would highly reccemend this:

Triity Incence - Powder Blend (Blue)

It burns great, but doesn’t burn too quickly, so it lasts long enough for a long procession or something. If you don’t like it, you also might try this:
