Military Service?

The military will definitely change your life. Back in the early 70’s, my husband and I were newlyweds. He was in the Navy submarine service. He was only 21 and I was 23 ( and a very naive girl from small town New England). He went to OCS after graduation and became an officer on a nuclear submarine. He was gone 6 months of the year. During our 4 year tour he made 5 patrols, we had one child and were pregnant with the second. Both of us grew up in ways that would not have been possible in the civilian world. The experience changed both of us. It was hard, but it was worth it. We both served our country and have an everlasting respect for all those who also serve. It will teach you the meaning of sacrifice. It will also teach you responsibility, respect, humility, gratitude and many other things. Good luck with your decision.

Where do people get the idea that joining the military violates Catholic morality? Since when is taking up arms to defend the innocent against terrorists, bent on killing as many people as possible, immoral?
