THE Pope’s anti-gay rhetoric “gives comfort” to thugs carrying out violent homophobic assaults, Labour leader Eamon Gilmore has warned. Mr Gilmore said Benedict XVI should “temper” his language as his hard-line stance encouraged discrimination.

“We have many examples of where there is not only discrimination against gay people, but there has been nasty homophobic bullying and assaults on gay people and I think opinions like that give comfort to that,” he told the Irish Examiner.

Truth:**

Mr Gilmore seems to be referring to an address by Pope Benedict to cardinals, bishops and priests delivered on 22 December 2008, which was subsequently interpreted incorrectly by some media outlets. The fact is that homosexuality was not referred to anywhere in this text.

Pope Benedict XVI has consistently affirmed that ‘men and women with homosexual tendencies must be accepted with respect, compassion and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided.’

But the damage is done. It’s so easy to take quotes out of context or pick a desired translation and claim they are doctrine or church policy. I’m sure we could go on all year with examples of Catholics being misquoted, but I think I’ve made my point on why I find misquoters on this forum so frustrating and dishonest in their tactics.

I think you are ignoring what youve read the past couple weeks.

Pahoran alone has refuted most of these LDS bash claims 2-3 times, with clear references. Yet the same people here keep recycling what was already proven false, just a couple days later.

Why would you rely on Pahoran any more than you would STM? It is ok to do some checking yourself, and rely on the primary sources, read with your own eyes.
