**JACKSON, Miss. - **A Mississippi House committee voted Tuesday to ban most abortions in the state - an unexpected move that left abortion opponents grappling to stake out a position on a proposal that could prompt a lengthy court battle.

The only abortions allowed under the bill would be if the life of the pregnant woman were in danger. There would be no abortions allowed in cases of pregnancy caused by rape or incest.

WOW! Is momentum starting?
Hopeful…Pray extra hard that when this reaches the supreme court (because you know people are going to sue) that the court will finally take a stand that abortion is murder of our smallest citizens…

Very encouraging to see this happen from up here in Canada. They’re coming down like a house of cards down there. Way to go America!

I just hope the same thing happens in Canada soon. I can only suggest that Canada is usually 5-7 years behind the US.
What troubles me much is the fact that the news of these victories are not making their way to Canada.

There seems to be a great rift occurring on a mass scale in the US. Could this eventually lead to violence or some kind of civil war?

My gut reaction is that the lines for such a thing are being drawn.

“Could this eventually lead to violence”? It has already led to violence. The main victims are the 3000 unborn people killed every day. Violence against anti-abortion demonstrators has taken place. Violence against pro-abortion demonstrators and “health” clinic workers has taken place.

All that said, this won’t lead to civil war. The U.S. Civil War was possible due to geography. Most of those who supported secession were in the Southern States. There is no “geography” to the abortion issue. Also, most Americans support at least restrictions if not an outright ban on abortion.

Once We the People stop marching lockstep to the judicial dictates of our black-robed masters, abortion will again be illegal in almost every single state in every single situation.

Yes you are correct about the violence that you describe.
Just keep in mind that I don’t hear anything about it because I live in Canada.

I think there is a bit of geography right now. The major cities vs the rural areas. Would there not be the chance that there could be a geographical identity to the two sides.

Also why do you think that Geography is required for a civil war? Don’t you feel as if there are a huge list of issues that divide america right now?

Though my first instinct is to rejoice at the news about South Dakota and now Mississippi banning abortions, I can’t help but wonder if this is premature and could therefore set us back further. We still need one more pro-life justice in the supreme court before this type of thing could have any reasonable hope of success, and when this goes to the sc and most likely loses, there will only be more precedent for the other side.
